Galina Kmeleva Workshop - Save the dates- Saturday and Sunday, July 7th and 8th. We are going to be having Galina Khmeleva as a guest, and if you've never met her or taken a class with her, make sure to grab at this chance - she is amazing! On Saturday, she will be teaching Spinning with Russian Support Spindles; and she'll teach knitting of some type (details not set yet) on Sunday. The workshops will be in Victor/Fishers right off the NYS thruway. We are considering a pot luck dinner on Saturday night. We will be working on the costs of the workshops and we'll start the sign up soon. GVHG members will have first choice and then if there is room, we will open it to others.
Sign ups will begin at guild meeting, Saturday, May 19
May Meeting - The may meeting will be a gathering of all the LaLa shawls so that we will have them ready to display at the festival in September. We will also be having Mother's Day cookies.
Skein & Garment Competition for Fest - It's time to start thinking about entering your skeins & garments at fest this year. In the next few months, Mary Anne and Wendy will be arranging short discussions at the guild meetings to talk about how to prepare and mark your items for competition, and what the judging criteria are so that you can make sure your entries have the best chance of winning ribbons and prizes.
June Meeting - There will be a mock Skein and Garment judging at the June meeting. You will get to see the way items are examined for judging, and you will get to hear comments and note what standards the judges are using to judge at our festival. Skein judge this year is Carolyn Rivello, and Bonnie Weidert will be judging garments. This will be a very valuable program, so make sure to attend if at all possible!
Membership 2012 - If you haven't given CeCe your membership check for 2012, be aware that dues were to be paid in January. Make sure to catch her at the March meeting if you haven't yet paid for this year. If you do not pay your dues by March 31st, your membership will revert to standard membership.
February Batts to Hats - Marcia wrote up a wonderful article after our Batts to Hats competition. Head on over to our Show and Tell page and you can see the article with the pattern for Marcia's Half-Hour Handspun Hat. The competition was a lot of fun to watch and it was definitely hard to choose a favorite from the six hats that were made. Congrats to the winners!
Demonstrations - If you know of a demonstration opportunity, make sure to contact Sharilyn, our demo coordinator. She will be able to get the info to us as a group, will give the info to Alicia for the newsletter, and will let your webmistress know all the details so we can list it here on the site. You can also contact Sharilyn for details about any particular demo that you see listed on our demo page. Coming up in April will be Lollipop Farm's Farm Days. We'll get more details for it soon.
Membership Coordinator - Carole Clark is our Membership Coordinator. If you have any questions about membership, please direct them to her.
Newsletter - Any suggestions you want to make or contributions you have can go to Alicia Benhumea. The deadline for articles is the 25th of the month for the following month's newsletter. All members are welcome to contribute to the newsletter. Tell us about a fiber trip you took, or a spinning experiment you tried, or about a new book you bought. Anything fiber related is welcome.
If you have a get-together for spinning, knitting or other handwork and you'd like others to know about it so they can come join in, be sure to let the webmistress know so she can put it on our Events Calendar.
