Learn the basics of spinning wool on a drop spindle. Spindle and fiber provided.

Learn the basics of spinning on a wheel. Class limited to four students. Fiber included in cost. Students may bring their own wheel in working condition or one will be provided for use during the class.

B/I - Learn to Spin Cotton on Your Wheel w/Alanna Wilcox
Students will learn how to spin cotton on their spinning wheel using the long draw technique. The process may be intimidating at first, but with a little practice you won't want to use your support spindle for cotton spinning!
Students must bring a wheel/flyer that can spin 15:1 ratio or higher for ease of spinning; 3 bobbins and a lazy kate for plying.
Note: Students must be able to spin with the long draw technique.
Cost: $20 + $5 materials cost

B/I - Spinning Flax w/Freda Peisley
Learn how to dress a distaff and spin line flax into strong and fine linen for your weaving.
Students must supply their own spinning wheel (with distaff if you have one).

B - Spinning Novelty Yarn w/Alanna Wilcox
Learn how to spin a beaded yarn, a boucle yarn, and a funky fuzzy mohair lock yarn.
Student must provide their own spinning wheel; a small container to put beads in; 3 bobbins and a lazy kate.
Note: Students must be able to attach a leader, spin yarn comfortably on their wheel, and ply)

B - Weaving 101 w/Eileen Easterly
Have you ever wanted to try weaving, but didn't know where to begin? Come to this workshop! You'll learn about the tools and terms of weaving, experiment with patterns and make your first woven project. This workshop will introduce you to weaving in a fun and easy way.

B/I - Dress Your Loom Alone w/Freda Peisley
Learn a fast way of making a warp and dressing a loom - all by yourself - and have more time to weave!

B - Looming Ahead w/Jen Adams
Introduction to circle and rectangle looms suitable for ages 5 and up. You will learn to make a basic hat or scarf during class. Finishing techniques and more patterns will be included. Students must bring two 2-ounce balls of yarn (the same color or different colors, your choice).
Cost: $15/individual, $30/family + $20 for supplies each person (your choice of 4 circle looms or one wooden rectangle loom- please specify choice on registration form)

I - Top-Down All-in-One Raglan Sweater w/Tamara Kelley
Learn to knit a sweater all in one from the top down. Very little finishing required using this technique! You will work on a sweater for a small teddy bear or doll, learning the techniques for a full-size sweater.
Students must provide a size 7-9 circular needle at least 40" long or two shorter circular needles; worsted-weight yarn (preferably light in color); waste yarn of contrasting color; yarn needle for finishing.
Note: Must be able to knit, purl, increase, and decrease

I - Socks, Socks & More Socks w/Carol Wood
Participants will learn how to work on one long circular needle (to knit socks, sleeves or other circular knitting). Knitting two socks on one circular will be demonstrated, as will various heel and toe shaping techniques.
Students must provide worsted or DK weight smooth yarn in a light solid color; 40" circular needle size 5, 6 or 7; stitch holder or cable needle in same or smaller size.

B - Scribble Scarf w/Erin Kosich
Learn the technique of "scribble knitting", deliberately knitting with yarns of different sizes to create a scribble effect, and make a SCRUMPTIOUS scarf! It's made using multicolored ribbon and kid mohair. Mmmmmm....

I - Go Fish w/Erin Kosich
The Summer 1998 issue of Knitters Magazine featured an afghan made entirely of knitted FISH. The afghan is sewn together fish by fish so that some are swimming one way and some are swimming the other way! The pattern has recently resurfaced on the internet as a great stash-buster project, because each fish can be made from a small amount of worsted weight yarn. In this class I will show you how to make one of the fish, which uses a lot of clever techniques, and how to sew a whole school of them together to make a fabulous afghan!
Students should bring one ball of worsted weight yarn in a wool or wool blend, short straight size 7 needles and a cable needle. Erin will provide the gummy fish, goldfish crackers and plenty of fish tales!

I - Cables Galore w/Tamara Kelley
Learn to knit traditional cables as well as reversible cables that work well for scarves.
Students must bring a skein of smooth yarn, worsted weight, in a light color, knitting needles for same yarn (US size 7 or 9), cable needle in similar size, darning needle for finishing.

B - Felted Stocking and "50 Ways to Recycle a Sweater!" w/Christine Haag
Complete and embellish a felted stocking from a wool sweater. Demo & samples of 50 ways to "transform" cast-off wool sweaters.

B/I - Feltmaking Fun w/Sandi Cirillo
Students will create a landscape in wool fiber working with a favorite photo, landscape picture or from their own imagination using both wet and needle felting techniques.
Students should supply old towels, scissors and pictures or photos. All other materials provided.

B/I/A - Spinning with Dyed Wool Locks w/Deb Santolla
In this class students will learn to spin from the lock and to make novelty yarns. You will also use the blending hackle and drum carder to get the most out of locks. Students must bring a spinning wheel or drop spindle.
Cost: $30 (includes dyed wool locks)

B/I/A - Fantastic Colors from Natural Dyes w/Carol Wood & Debbie MacCrea
Participants will learn about the natural dye process, wool-handling, basic color theory, and safety considerations. Participants will gain hands-on experience with the processes of dyeing on wool and silk with natural materials, a range of color possibilities (achieved through the use of mordants, assists, single-and multi-color dyestuffs, including indigo), and how to record their dyeing results for further exploration. Each student will take home samples of approximately 25 colors from 4 to 5 dyepots, complete instructions/recipes, a reference list and list of suppliers. Participants will have breaks
during the day to shop the Festival.

B - Hand Painting Yarn w/Betty Todd
Learn how to hand-paint your own yarns. Dyes will be brushed onto yarns in a variety of patterns. All materials will be provided. Students should wear old clothing and an apron.

B - Easy Tapestry Weaving w/Eileen Easterly
Learn the centuries-old art of creating pictures with yarn in a simple and easy way. This workshop will introduce you to basic tapestry weaving techniques- focusing on design, building shapes, and methods to join colors. Students will create a tapestry on a small frame loom to take home.

B - Pin Me w/Erin Kosich
This is such a cutie-pie little project. You will be making knitted lapel pins using small amounts of brightly colored sock yarn, beads and...toothpicks! Sounds scary, perhaps, but it's really fun and addictive! Everyone will have at least a pin or two to take home. Make it and take it! Students must bring short straight or double-pointed knitting needles in size 1 or 2.

B/I - Get Shorty w/Erin Kosich
Learn the magic of short-row shaping and how it can be used for everything from socks to stuffed animals to super-special afghans. In this class we will be making a square from the Lizard Ridge Afghan recently featured on the website Knitty.com. (Just try to take this class and not want to make the whole afghan...it's unbelievably beautiful!)
Students should bring short, straight needles, size 8.
Cost: $28 (includes yarn and handouts)

B - Needle Felted Flowers w/Deborah Hartmann
Everyone's raving about the fun and exciting craft of needle felting - and now you can learn to needle felt too! This beginner's workshop will teach you all the basics, including understanding needle sizes, choosing your fiber, and basic construction methods. Students will create 2 colorful and elegant 3D flowers, which can be used as embellishments for knitted projects, or even made into wearable felt jewelry! Bring a sharp pair of scissors, and your love of fiber art; instructor will provide all other materials.

B - Crazy Quilt w/Alanna Wilcox
Students will learn about crazy quilting techniques and create a small crazy quilt sampler. The class will show you how to create the base of a crazy quilt and how to make various embroidery stitches that are commonly found on crazy quilts. You will be able to turn your sampler into a variety of products such as a pillow case, needle case, or wall hanging. Students should bring their favorite fabrics (velvets, silks, cottons, etc.), sharp scissors, thimble, quilting pins, beads, beading thread (Nymo brand is recommended), threads (sewing/quilting and embroidery threads), ribbons and buttons.
Note: Registration ends August 30th. No registration at festival. Minimum of 2, maximum of 12 students.

B - Punch Needle Embroidery w/Alanna Wilcox
Students will learn how to create an image using punch-needle embroidery techniques. First we will create a pattern to work from, and then you will have the rest of the class time to practice. Punch needle embroidery is a technique where a special needle pierces stretched fabric in an embroidery hoop, forming loops of threads on the back of the fabric to make a design. The designs can be very detailed and intricate, looking very similar to a miniature hooked rug. If you enjoy creating small intricate projects or venting frustration by poking things, this is the class for you! Students must provide colored DMC thread (2-3 colors) and a punch needle (bring your own or purchase from instructor).

Cost: $30 + $10 for supplies (instructions/handouts, light tracing machine, weaver's cloth, Black DMC thread; plastic hoop, micro pen)
