January Meeting - We had a fantastic time at our January meeting! There were lots and lots of wonderful items in the auction that found new homes, and it brought in a good amount of money for the guild that we can use for our operating expenses and programs.
Membership 2012 - CeCe passed out postcards at the last meeting for 2012 membership. Those who weren't at the meeting will receive them in the mail. Our membership year runs from January to December. If you didn't write CeCe a check at the December meeting, you can mail it to her or give it to her at the January meeting.
LaLa Simple Shawl KAL - Instead of an exchange this year, we're going to be doing a knit-along. The LaLa shawl is the perfect shawl pattern to use- it can be made in any weight, and will look wonderful in natural colors, solid dyed colors or handpainted or blended rovings or batts. Official start is the fall, but you can begin at any time. These shawls will be displayed at the 2012 FLFF. It's so much fun to see how different weight yarn and different colors totally change the look of a piece. This is a very easy shawl pattern and beginning knitters can join in without worry. If anyone has trouble, any good knitter in the guild will be happy to help you at any time- just bring it to a meeting- there will be plenty of people to help you.
Stella Maris - Our next spinning retreat weekend will be held next March- the weekend of March 23rd, 24th & 25th, 2012. The weekend starts Friday any time after 3pm and goes until Sunday afternoon. Tina is also coordinating this event. Meals are included. I know it seems soon to think about next March, but we need to have a list by December because we have a deposit on the building. If we cancel after that, we lose our deposit. We need to have 33 people signed up for it to run. Contact Tina for more details.
Demonstrations - If you know of a demonstration opportunity, make sure to contact Sharilyn, our demo coordinator. She will be able to get the info to us as a group, will give the info to Alicia for the newsletter, and will let your webmistress know all the details so we can list it here on the site. You can also contact Sharilyn for details about any particular demo that you see listed on our demo page.
A Special Library Book - At the May meeting, Caroline gave a quick little speech and presented your webmistress with a certificate for a book to be put in the library in her name as a commemorative of her completion of the OHS Spinning program. That book will be The Fleece and Fiber Sourcebook by Deb Robson. We have the book, Pat Bernhard had a commemorative plaque put on it, and it is now available in the library.
Membership Coordinator - Carole Clark is our Membership Coordinator. If you have any questions about membership, please direct them to her.
Newsletter - Any suggestions you want to make or contributions you have can go to Alicia Benhumea. The deadline for articles is the 25th of the month for the following month's newsletter. All members are welcome to contribute to the newsletter. Tell us about a fiber trip you took, or a spinning experiment you tried, or about a new book you bought. Anything fiber related is welcome.
If you have a get-together for spinning, knitting or other handwork and you'd like others to know about it so they can come join in, be sure to let the webmistress know so she can put it on our Events Calendar.
